It is hot!

Gavin had a wonderful weekend in Yosemite, hiking Half Dome with his buddies. It took them 12 hours, there and back, but I'll let him tell the story in a later post.
I had a fun weekend with my boys, trying to stay cool. It was 105 F (40 C) and 107 F (42 C) on Saturday and Sunday. I took my two superheroes to the park, early on Saturday morning but even by 10:30 am, it was too hot to play outside. We had to play indoors for most of the weekend but that did not stop the fun!

Fathers Day Weekend

I took some time off last week and was able to spend four exciting days with my family. On Wednesday night Aiden and I camped in our back yard. He slept better and longer than he usually does in his bed! On Thursday we went to see "UP" at the movies and it is a great movie for kids and adults. Thursday afternoon we went to the El Dorado County Fair in Placerville. Aiden enjoyed seeing and touching all the farm animals. The sheep scared Zack somewhat.

We then headed to Sonoma and met up with the Montoyas at a very nice house that they rented for the weekend. Friday James and I took Josh and Aiden to Infineon Raceway to watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Practice rounds. This was a dream come true for Aiden as he saw all his "heros" like Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, Jimmy Johnson, and Juan Pablo Montoya (no relation to James and Josh). The cars were loud, but the boys really enjoyed the experience. Both ended up with Tony Stewart "Old Spice" t-shirts which they wore proudly, even though Tony only came in second.

On Saturday afternoon the adults got to do some wine tasting as we tag-teamed watching the kids. Sunday morning we took the kids to Train Town in Sonoma - a really nice little place for young kids. There is a 20-minute train ride with a stop half-way at a miniature town with a petting zoo. We put Zack and Aiden in the miniature jail and they were a little worried for a while that we might leave them...

Playing outside

Aiden finished his swimming lessons this week. He loves being in the water, diving in and making a big splash. He is a long way from being able to swim or even being able to help himself if he would fall into the pool, but he is getting the idea of floating in the water and submerging his head. Those are the two major skills he had to master during the lessons and he did good!
Zack's 4th tooth appeared this week, which makes us all very happy.
With the beautiful, slightly cool, summer weather we are having we decided to give Aiden his birthday present a couple of months early, in order to make the most of the summer months learning to ride his bike. He has not mastered the pedaling motion but he loves sitting on his bike and steering while Mommy and Daddy pushes!

We had fun hiking at Folsom Lake this morning. Aiden is finally starting to wear a hat but Zack is still fighting his mom on that. It's a good thing we have sunscreen!

Swimming Lessons

Aiden had four days of swimming lessons this past week, followed by four more this coming week. He is enjoying every moment of it and even insists on wearing the goggles he got from his swim coach around the house sometimes. And then he says "Mommy too!" and Christina is happy to oblige. This morning Aiden and I went for a 2 mile hike along the east shore of Folsom Lake. He did great and walked all the way by himself. Zack is starting to show interest in books which is a nice break from the frantic chasing around that we've been doing since he started crawling. All is well on the home front!
